A recent inquiry asked to see the differences in the varieties of wood I use for my contact printing frames. I grabbed a few samples out of the scrap bin and applied some mineral spirits to simulate the appearance after finishing. Here are the results showing white oak, cherry and walnut. Of course actual colors of all wood species vary slightly. Also, as the varnish and wood ages, the appearance darkens somewhat. In my opinion, the frames all look better as they age.

Some species also weigh more than others; Oak is heaviest, walnut is second and cherry is the lightest. Weight of the finished frame will affect cost of shipping.
